The 27-jarige alto sax player Immanuel Wilkins is currently blasting through the international jazz world like a comet. In 2020, he recorded his first album for Blue Note, entitled Omega, which instantly wowed jazz connoisseurs. Since then, he has been collecting a stream of rave reviews with his expressive playing style, and can invariably be found at the top of the annual rankings of the renowned DownBeat magazine. Wilkins doesn’t stick to the tried and tested, as he feels equally at home in the world of visual art and film, which is one of his sources of inspiration for creating music. On his latest album, Blues Blood, he collaborates with a range of vocalists, including Cécile McLorin Savant and Chris Dave. The album, which was produced by Meshell Ndegeocello, was immediately nominated Best International Album of the Year for the Deutscher Jazz Prize.
