A set of drums, stacks of ambition, oodles of creativity, and a string of shows at a local cafe is how the musical career of the multi-talented American Kassa Overall got started back in the day. Being raised by a – in his own words – ‘Black bohemian father and white hippie mother', the turntables in the home he grew up in seamlessly alternated albums by Ornette Coleman with Bob Dylan for instance, which splashed his musical palette with a wide variety of colors, and helped shape the now 42-year-old singer, drummer, composer and producer from Seattle into the versatile and innovative artist he has now become. Overall is always looking to evolve and reinvent his sound, both as a musician and in terms of his repertoire, and during the energetic live shows he delivers, he is always effortlessly switching up the beats and loops from his albums to form new interpretations. In doing so, all boundaries blur between the multitude of genres that inspire this American artist, culminating in a refreshing and unpredictably adventurous musical whirlwind.
