Sarah-Jane and Mr. JetFly are the perfect ambassadors for Surinamese kawina music. The singer and the keyboardist, both with Surinamese roots, connected over their shared belief that kawina doesn’t get nearly enough attention in the Netherlands. And they’re making waves: they’ve performed at Keti Koti celebrations and the opening of the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam. And in May this year, they had a show at Carré that sold out so fast they’ve added a second show in September. Sarah-Jane is no stranger to North Sea Jazz, having performed here back in 2010. Mr. JetFly is known for his collaborations with artists like Kenny B and Ronnie Flex. Together, they’re performing with the Black Excellence Kawina Orchestra, a 16-piece all-star band.
