Imagine a department for Very Special Projects – Dutch pianist and composer Martin Fondse (b. 1967) would definitely fit in there with this show. In 2022, he composed the piece Diamonds, to which he has now added new sections. Faces of Earth | Diamonds is a story about brilliance and power, with a contemporary theme: the return to their country of origin of jewels that were taken during the colonial period. Fondse, who won the Boy Edgar Prize in 2017, created music for this theme using current events as the basis for compositions and improvisations. The performance features a spectacular ensemble comprised of six women and six men. The versatile women’s group Vox Sturmus is part of it, including singer Margriet Sjoerdsma and singer and cellist Annie Tangberg. You’ll also hear well-established artists like saxophonist Miguel Boelens and bassist Eric van der Westen.
