Hit the dance floor, because Amsterdam Funk Orchestra is in town. Since its inception in 2014, the biggest funk band in the Netherlands has irresistibly energized every club and festival it’s performed at – on the jazz and pop circuits alike. As if the 19 funky men and women on stage weren’t festive enough, along the way they’ve jammed with the likes of Benjamin Herman, Steffen Morrison, Denise Jannah, Anton Goudsmit and Jared Grant. With the latter on board, Amsterdam Funk Orchestra made the 2021 album A Tribute To James Brown, a homage that also led to a successful Dutch theater tour. Earlier this year, the hot-blooded third album Samba Soul was released, produced by Efraïm Trujillo, who used to be the musical director. With Dutch-based Brazilian Lucas Figueiredo Santana, who took over the role last year, the band is taking a blistering new live program with singer Lílian Vieira to festivals this summer.
