In 2019, Nigerian singer, writer and producer Omah Lay was still singing by himself in his bedroom, wondering if he would ever find an audience for his music. That question was answered a year later when his debut EP Get Layd was released, racking up a whopping 100 million streams with the hits Bad Influence and You. As a teenager in the navy, his dark voice and infectious sense of rhythm were part of a rap group. He later dropped the microphone to devote himself to production and quickly became a local household name. The success of these productions left him wanting more, so Lay blew the dust off his microphone. 2022 saw the release of Boy Alone, his first full-length album, which bursts with Afro-fusion and highlights Lay’s expert writing talent. The album also features a guest performance by Justin Bieber.
