The creative path of discovery that ANOHNI set out on in her life has guided the singer along a wide stream of music styles such as dance, soul, avant-classical and experimental electronica. Born in the UK and raised in the Netherlands and the US, she formed her group ANOHNI and the Johnsons (formerly known as Antony and the Johnsons) in the late 1990s. She distinguished herself from the dominating pop-rock scene at the time with her breathtaking falsetto and lyrically spiritual, velvet-textured songs, which also caught the eye of Lou Reed, who subsequently collaborated on the second album I Am A Bird Now (2005). That release won the coveted British Mercury Prize, and AHNONI's star has gone on to shine ever brighter with time. My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross (2023) was the sixth album to be released, where the singer still makes us think about personal expression, social structures, resistance to change, and our relationship with the biosphere, in a subtle yet coolly confrontational manner.
