Lee Konitz (alto saxophone); Joey Baron (drums).
Lee Konitz(1927) played with jazz greats like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker and is still touring the globe: a living part of jazz history. Konitz is a legendary alto saxophonist who is always happy to philosophize about his craft: "I am still experimenting and it's still going well." In his youth, the saxophonist mainly listened to Johnny Hodges and Benny Carter. To the latter for the way in which he improvised, to the former for his sound. Konitz later worked with Stan Kenton, Lenny Tristano, Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, Gil Evans and many more. He remains an adventurer; this year he is performing in a duo with drummer Joey Baron (1955). Baron is a sensational percussionist who has played with the likes of Bill Frisell, Stan Getz, Steve Kuhn and John Zorn as well as backing great names from outside jazz circles.
