About Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis with special guest Chano Dominguez & El Piraña

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis with special guests Chano Dominguez & El Piraña (US/ES)

Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis (1961) is an authority in the jazz world and so he is at the centre of many discussions; completely fitting for someone with his standing at the top of his art. Marsalis has an impressive and varied series of albums to his name. A large proportion of this is devoted to classical music. His first album in that domain was Trumpet Concertos (1983) and it earned him a Grammy. But this doesn't mean jazz is only second choice as he shows on his recent album He and She (Blue Note). As a child of a very musical family, he sees himself as a custodian of jazz from the Golden Age. To that end, Marsalis uses all kinds of means, including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (Marsalis being artistic director at the Lincoln Center). The trumpeter/composer has invited two Spanish guests for his performance at North Sea Jazz, flamenco pianist Chano Dominguez and cajon player El Piraña. Marsalis will be performing The Vitoria Suite that is dedicated to the Basque city of Vitoria-Gasteiz. In this composition, he crosses over into the terrain of flamenco.
