About David Sanborn and Horns - feat. Ricky Peterson, Richard Patterson, Gene Lake

David Sanborn & Horns (US)

David Sanborn, born in Florida, is one of the greatest alto saxophonists of his time. The American is able to move in perfect balance between the worlds of creativity and virtuosity. The 63-year-old sax player made his debut in 1975 and quickly developed into a celebrated jazz instrumentalist. He also became a sought-after guest soloist for other stars. Sanborn can be heard on albums by Paul Simon, James Taylor, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and The Eagles. Additionally, he established a style that is completely autonomous and has seen a lot of followers. The Dutch star Candy Dulfer is a fine example. Up to this day, he continues to release solo CDs uninterruptedly, and over the last decade Sanborn has been taking more and more risks as to his style. His most recent album, Here & Gone, from 2008, comprises guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Joss Stone. With this CD, Sanborn returns to his roots, to be found in R&B, and he pays tribute to Hank Crawford and David "Fathead" Newman using wind instruments in live performances.
