About Ari Hoenig Group

Ari Hoenig Group (US)

Drummer Ari Hoenig is a playful person. Just look at the title of his most recent album: Bert's Playground. You might think that it refers to a club or rehearsal room but it turns out to be a goldfish's bowl. Hoenig (Philadelphia, 1973) is a remarkable, melodic percussionist, a master craftsman who does not just strike, but tells a story with his 'talking drum' technique. His own compositions are full of finesses. Hoenig performs with a line-up that - according to him - is sometimes called Ari Hoenig Group and sometimes Punk Bop. At other times, he prefers The Pussycats, or The Cow Tones. All jokes that add additional color to the work of this exceptional drummer/composer/arranger. Ari Hoenig is obsessed with exploring the melodic aspects of his instrument. That is why he gives so many solo concerts alongside his work with Punk Bop which usually performs as quartet (sometimes with a guest artist like another saxophonist). A concert of this percussionist will be a surprise, even for connoisseurs.
