Wolfert Brederode (NL/NO/CH)

Wolfert Brederode (born 1974) is considered a unique talent in today's jazz scene for his highly individual and poetic tone. Dutch newspaper Het Parool wrote "In his playing he displays the elusiveness of an improviser and the virtuosity and accuracy of a concert pianist […] The sounds flow from the piano like water". On his album Currents, Wolfert's debute as a leader for the label ECM, he is surrounded by musicians who match his approach effortlessly. The music of this international quartet can be best described as vivid chamber jazz that shifts from crystalline melodic lines to more transient harmonics, with a persistent undertow of edginess.
