Quincy Jones special guest of North Sea Jazz 2010
02/06/2010

The organizers of the North Sea Jazz Festival have awarded the Paul Acket
Award “Special Appreciation” to the legendary Quincy Jones. He will receive the award on Sunday July 11 at the North Sea Jazz Festival. It is awarded by the festival organizers to a person who has won his spurs in the realm of jazz, in the broadest sense of the genre.
For over 60 years, Quincy Jones has been active in the music industry, both on the stage as well as behind the scenes. Jones has been working as a composer, producer, artist, arranger and bandleader. He is a master in combining various musical styles. By ingeniously fusing genres like soul, pop, hip-hop, jazz, and classical, African and Brazilian music, he created new standards for contemporary music. He is also the famed producer of Michael Jacksons’s album Thriller, the best-selling album of all times.
Quincy Jones will be interviewed in the Darling on Sunday July 11 at 5.15 p.m. by Grammy Award-winning bassist and composer Christian Mc Bride for ‘The Lowdown: Converstation with Christian’, for SIRIUS XM’s Real Jazz Channel.
The Paul Acket Award is presented to those groups or persons, musicians or otherwise engaged in the music industry, who have contributed or are still contributing in a significant way to the development of jazz music. It holds two categories: “Special Appreciation” and “Artist Deserving Wider Recognition”. The Paul Acket Award “Artist Deserving Recognition” has been won this year by Christian Scott. The award is named after the founder of the North Sea Jazz Festival, Paul Acket. The internationally recognized prize was known as the “Bird Award” from 1985 to 2006.
