North Sea Jazz Gala

North Sea Jazz Gala Al Green and Waylon to open festival in style The North Sea Jazz Gala, the grand opening of the North Sea Jazz Festival, will take place in De Doelen this year. In this famous Rotterdam concert hall, the legendary soul and gospel singer Al Green will kick off the fifth Rotterdam edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival on Thursday 8 July 2010.

The great Al Green, who sings both soul and gospel, with his silkenvoiced and breath-taking falsetto scored big hits in the 1970s including Tired of Being Alone, Let’s Stay Together, Can’t Get Next to You and I’m Still in Love With You. After a fall from the stage, Green chose to become a religious man and entirely focused on gospel songs. He made a major comeback two years ago with the smoldering Blue Note  album I Can’t Stop. Recently, he released another record, Everything’s OK that was produced by Willie Mitchell.
Curtain raiser for Al Green is Waylon, whose hit song Wicked Ways stormed the charts in the Netherlands which delivered him a contract with Motown as the legendary label’s first Dutch artist. Waylon is one of the great new soul talents and his vibrant
live shows are immediately sold out. This is your chance to see both a living soul legend
and an upcoming soul artist live on a single evening!
