Composition Assignment

The new composition assignment written by Tobias Klein will premiere on Friday July 9 in the Yenisei hall.
Every year, in collaboration with the Fonds Podiumkunsten (Fund for the Performing Arts) the North Sea Jazz Festival and Muziek Centrum Nederland commission a promising young Dutch jazz composer to write a free composition.
This year, it is reed player/composer Tobias Klein who will have the opportunity to perform his new work at the North Sea Jazz Festival with his trio Lackritz. The anything but ordinary line-up of Lackritz is in itself a guarantee of an unconventional sound. The tasteful use of electronics adds even more impact to that effect. Despite the rich sound, the trio’s music still remains remarkably transparent due to the absence of bass and drums. Lackritz strives for a combination of melodic, harmonic and abstract sounds, and cannot be compared to any other group playing improvised or modern composition music.
Lackritz is not a project, but rather a tight trio “We will be playing my compositions at the North Sea Jazz Festival, but the DNA of Lackritz comes from all three of us,” says Klein.
