About Paquito D'Rivera Quintet
Paquito D'Rivera Quintet (CU)
The Cuban Paquito D'Rivera (1948) has been a professional since
1966. The son of classical saxophonist and conductor Tito D'Rivera
has been on the concert stage since he was seven. At the beginning
of the 70s, he founded the Orchestra Cubana de Musica Moderna,
together with Chucho Valdés. In 1981, he moved to America and later
that year his solo debut Paquito Blowin' was issued. In 1988 he
entered The United Nations Orchestra of legendary trumpet player
Dizzy Gillespie. In subsequent years, the sympathetic musician made
over 30 solo albums and won no less than nine Grammy Awards. He has
also made guest appearances in famous orchestras and big bands.
Besides D'Rivera is still a versatile and very prolific
composer.
