About The Lorca Project with the Metropole Orchestra conducted by Vince Mendoza

The Lorca Project
Metropole Orchestra conducted by Vince Mendoza (NL/ES)

For years, top of the line arranger and conductor Vince Mendoza has one big wish: to do a flamenco project with his Metropole Orkest. During this festival, his wish will be granted. Running as a red thread through the orchestra's repertoire will be Federico Garcia Lorca's work. Incidentally, in 1998 the Metropole Orkest also worked on a Lorca project.
Together with musician Manuel de Falla, the famous Spanish author visited the caves near Granada in the 1920s, where they met gypsies who sang and played traditional Spanish music. They both felt this style should be protected against decadent, modern, commercial influences. The Andalusian themes and styles of the cante jondo (deep singing), which is closely related to flamenco, form the basis of this project, for which the Metropole Orkest will also invite young flamenco musicians. Their guests will be: Rafael de Utrera, Eva de Dios Moreno, Daniel Mendez, Daniel Navarro Muñoz and Udo Demandt.
