About Elizabeth Shepherd
The Canadian singer and pianist Elizabeth Shepherd is one of the
musicians who, despite the fact that she plays conventional jazz,
is still busy extending the boundaries of the genre. Shepherd grew
up surrounded by the marching band music of the Salvation Army and
she later developed a love of house, disco, hip-hop and classical
music. At the conservatory she studied jazz piano and developed a
style in which you can hear influences of many music genres. There
are no secrets on her recent CD Parkdale. The singer-pianist has
always found it strange that we almost never talk about the
innermost thoughts that make us who we are, while the trivialities
of everyday life slip effortlessly into conversation. To break this
taboo, with Parkdale Shepherd has made a turbulent, emotional
album, both musically and in terms of lyrics.
