About Bik Bent Braam
The 13-man big band of pianist, composer and arranger Michiel
Braam plays music in the tradition of the Instant Composers Pool
Orchestra and the Willem Breuker Kollektief. Thanks to the
international reputation of this award-winning Dutch orchestra,
people all over the globe have developed an amenable ear for the
groundbreaking sounds of Bik Bent Braam. Under the slogan Outer
Limits, this year the musicians of this collective are exploring
the farthest horizons of musical possibilities. Bik Bent Braam
performs without drawing up a playlist in advance. Each member of
the band is free to start playing a piece and his fellow musicians
decide on the spot what the instrumentation will be. In this way,
the music that Braam writes specifically for his musicians remains
constantly fresh and surprising. After the release of their most
recent album Growing Pains the orchestra was described as 'the most
exciting music machine to be found anywhere.'
