About Soil & "Pimp" Sessions
Ear-shatteringly loud death jazz, with rocking solos in quick
succession, performed by bizarrely costumed artists; the Japanese
sextet Soil & "PIMP" Sessions once had North Sea Jazz visitors
running away in horror. Though others felt the groove and begged
for more. From the very first loud jazz note, the formation with
the suction power and speed of a jet plane really shakes the house.
The cult status of this ferocious Tokyo band began with the band's
performance at the most popular festival in Japan: the Fuji Rock
Festival. This concert was seen as the highlight of 2003. The band
is very productive and with each release of an album, such as Pimp
Master (2006), Pimp of the Year (2007) and Pimpoint (2007), their
reputation grows. They have reached the top of the lists of
internationally renowned music gurus, such as BBC deejay Gilles
Peterson.
