About Antonio Sanchez
Antonio Sanchez provided the driving beat behind Pat Metheny's
bands for many years. He could also be heard on the recordings of
well-established artists like Chick Corea and Michael Brecker, as
well as new talent like the saxophonists David Sanchez and Miguel
Zenon. And he recently completed a tour with the singer Dianne
Reeves. This incredible Mexican drummer is a much in-demand sideman
whose percussion skills shine in greatly varying bands in the jazz
world. The only thing missing from the illustrious career of this
New York-based drummer was his own album. All this changed last
year when Sanchez recorded Migration on the Italian label CAM Jazz
with, among others, the lyrical horns of the tenor saxophonists
Chris Potter and David Sanchez. Just like Jack DeJohnette, Sanchez
started his career as a pianist which enabled him to develop an eye
for the smallest of details.
